The social media community literally caught fire on Tuesday over the counsel by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye to young men to avoid marrying girls who cannot cook or pray for one hour non-stop.

The pastor’s message on marriage, triggered debate, with thousands taking to the Internet to protest or support his positions on the categories of people Christians should marry.

Adeboye advised, “Marry a prayer warrior! Don’t marry any girl who cannot pray for one hour non-stop. Don’t marry a girl who is lazy! If she is lazy when she is single, what will happen if she is married?”

In another video, he warned, “Don’t marry a man who has no job. Before God gave Adam Eve, he gave him a job. He said, ‘This is the garden, keep it.’ So when anybody comes to you and say, ‘Sister, thus saith the Lord, you are going to be the star in my firmament,’ ask him — ‘What is your job?’”

For over six hours, Adeboye trended on twitter, with many countering his claims while others insisted the soft-spoken preacher was on track.

Reacting to the debate, one ‎Dare Idowu said, “The modern youths have this habit of attacking the truth so much that anyone with any other truths in the future would prefer to remain silent. Adeboye has said the TRUTH. The whole truth, the plain truth, unbiased truth. We know marriage is beyond cooking, praying and jobs, get those 3 first and any other shall be an added advantage. Not like you forget those basis and start giving us your modern excuses to what a wife is.

The ONLY one reason a woman was primarily created, satisfy that purpose first before a secondary or tertiary reason. Men, don’t let them use their profile pictures, photo effects, thin voice and worshiped body to sway you off the truth.

If they can’t cook and can’t pray, don’t marry them. They belong to the social media and not a home.”

However, a certain Austin believes the cleric was wrong; he submitted thus, “Man of God, what will Jesus do about your comment? Your advice to your flock is diametrically ungodly. I hope those seeking a soul mate in that country will listen to God that speaks from above rather than a man who does not have empathy to the poor and the needy.”

Another, F.B. Eye said, “If God did not want jobless men marrying, he would have designed man that he will only grow a penis when he gets a job and un-grow a penis when he loses a job.”

Another Olumide Soneye said, “Babalawo advice is even better than some of our so called men of God. It is a known fact that things will only start going right for some people only after they get marry and start having children. Adeboye got it all wrong. No condition is permanent. A CEO of a big bank in Nigeria recently committed suicide because of unpaid loan he gave someone. What if the bank had sacked him after collecting all his property? Adeboye will ask his wife to divorce him because he does not have a job or money anymore? Wrong teaching. The man is growing old. Jesus said the poor will always be among us. A lot of people have been led astray with wrong doctrine and teachings.”
