Folorunso Alakija, billionaire oil magnate, will launch WFM 91.7; whichever way you look at it, this is a worthy honour for a woman so great she commands the awe of mankind’s greatest alphas. Only a woman of her stature no doubt, could commission a venture that speaks to the world in a comforting language of hope and reality, amid the dialects of fancy and extreme theatricality characteristic of the contemporary world.

WFM 91.7, a radio station created to cater to the interests of the female folk – and also that of the men and the family – will be formally launched on December 18, 2015 at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lekki, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Alakija, billionaire oil tycoon, fashion designer and philanthropist will be the key note speaker at the event, where she is billed to address 500 select women and men that support women causes. The event which promises to be a great event will attract top celebrities who have confirmed their attendance come December 18.

Since it hit the airwaves on Monday, November 16, 2015, the radio station, primed to be a reliable, leading and trusted source of all information and matters of interests for women and their families, has been engaging the society on issues of local, national and international importance, particularly those reflective of women and the family’s interests.

“We are very delighted to have the first women radio station in Nigeria and we have mapped our strategies to serve the people fantastic women related programmes. If you are a woman, mother, sister or a girl, WFM 91.7 is the best radio station for you to listen to. You will learn a lot doing so and also get to share your opinion about crucial women issues,” said Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, Executive Director of the radio station.

WFM 91.7 is owned by St. Ives Communications, a brainchild of Dr. Tunde Okewale, Chief Medical Director, St. Ives Specialist Hospital, Opebi, Ikeja, Lagos and veteran broadcast journalist, Okewale-Sonaiya.
Until its arrival in the media sphere, the regular broadcaster found it hard to utter common notions in an individual way but since the emergence of the radio station, that gloomy reality has since, changed.

The radio station presents wonderful prospects in a desert of ideas as it seeks to do a familiar thing in an unfamiliar way. Though licensed to air women programmes, WFM 91.7 also caters for the men and the family by engaging on issues of local, national and international importance for all. It is primed to be a reliable, leading and trusted source of all related news, information and matters of interests for women and their families.
