Raymond Dokpesi jnr, chairman of DAAR Communications, owners of AIT and Ray Power FM, visited the presidential villa in Abuja on Tuesday to present a giant seasonal card to President Muhammadu Buhari.

The younger Dokpesi was accompanied by top management staff of the organisation such as Tony Akiotu, group MD of DAAR Communications; Imoni Mac Amarere, MD, DAAR news services; Paulyn Ugbodaga head, human resource; and Kunle Onime head, corporate communications. They were received by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, and O.J Abuah, director of information at the state house. The move has generated reactions from Nigerians with Gabriel Akinadewo, a notable journalist, describing it as “medicine after death”.

According to TheCable, Akinadewo made this remark on Facebook in response to Adesina’s post on the event. The older Dokpesi, who is the founder of DAAR Communications, is currently facing prosecution for allegedly receiving N2.1billion from the office of the national security adviser for the presidential media campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The money was allegedly disbursed from funds earmarked for the procurement of arms for the fight against insurgency. Dokpesi was arraigned alongside his firm, DAAR Investment and Holdings Limited.

The funds, which were allegedly released to the accused persons between October, 2014 and March 19, 2015, were allegedly transferred from an account the office of the NSA operated with the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to a First Bank of Nigeria Plc account owned by DAAR Investment and Holding Company Limited. According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the offence is a breach of section 58 (4) (b) of the public procurement act 2007 and punishable under section 58 (6) and (7) of the same act, as well as under section 17 (b) of the EFCC act, 2004.TheCable
