• The Story of The No Love-Lost Relationship Between Jumoke and Her Step-Mom, Olivia Okoya-Thomas

The last one year has not been favour able towards prominent female politician, Honourable Jumoke Abidemi Okoya-Thomas. She has been subjected her to an emotional turmoil, occasioned by the death of her parents. Okoya-Thomas was yet to recoil from the shock, occasioned by the death of her father, the highly respected industrialist and statesman, Chief Molade Alexander Okoya-Thomas, which occurred last year, when her step-mother, Chief (Mrs.) Olivet Abosede Okoya-Thomas, also died.

Mama Olivet Abosede died on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. She was in her late 70’s. Her burial ceremony was held two weeks ago in Lagos. Although, Okoya-Thomas and her step-mother were not exactly fond of each other, she was still devastated by her death. The ELITES gathered that the no-love-lost relationship, that existed between Okoya-Thomas and her step-mother was a fundamental one. This informed why she was brought up by her grandmother, the late Alhaja Suwebat Okoya-Thomas (née Gbajabiamila), the former Otun Iya Adinni of Idita Mosque. All the same, the very hard-working society lady loves her siblings to bits.

Beyond mourning the death of her step-mother, Okoya-Thomas is still reeling in shock of losing out in the game of love and her crashed marriage plans.

A couple of years ago, Okoya-Thomas decided to call off her wedding plans with her lover of many years, Senator David Alachenu Bonaventure Mark, the former Senate President. But for the sudden cancellation, Jumoke and Senator Mark would have been married by now. Of course, the circumstances that led to the cancellation of the wedding plans, still keep tongues wagging till now.

Okoya-Thomas was a member of the Federal House of Representatives and she represented Lagos Island 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State. Until last year, when she was edged out from the clique of Lagos State APC power-brokers, the 59-year old mother of three, was one of the most formidable female politicians in the country. She served for three terms in the House of Representatives, and she sponsored many Bills as well.

The ELITES gathered that Okoya-Thomas and Senator Mark had consciously guarded their love affair for many years. However, they decided to get married and they opted for a quiet ceremony. Unfortunately though, one of David Mark’s wives, Helen, who parades herself as his official wife, turned out to be the clog in the wheel of that marriage plan. She deflated their hope of getting married, as she was alleged to have vowed to make life unbearable for her husband, should he go ahead to marry Okoya-Thomas.

Not even several pleas, made by some notable Nigerians towards Helen could make her shift her ground. Eventually, Okoya-Thomas, who could not stomach the hoopla, generated by Helen’s resistance, was forced to call off the wedding plans. It is imperative to add that, Mark is also married to three other women-Omale, Kate and Randa.

Sources disclosed to The ELITES that Helen might have put up the resistance because she foresaw a situation where Okoya-Thomas could upstage her if she joined her husband’s harem.
Meanwhile, Okoya-Thomas has since put the whole unsavory episode behind her, and has since moved on with her life.

Although, she is still very much in love with Senator David Mark, Okoya-Thomas has been keeping herself busy by engaging in political and social activities; as well as spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
