LIVERPOOL 4-3 MAN CITY

FULL TIME! What. A. Game.

Liverpool don’t half do it the hard way, but after taking a 4-1 lead against City, they just about hold on to inflict a first league defeat of the season on City!

Guardiola’s side remain 15 points clear, but what a boost for Liverpool on an afternoon where Arsenal also lost.

Klopp walks off with pure delight on his face, while ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ bellows out.

One of the games of the season. A seven-goal thriller which lifts Liverpool up to third.

LIVERPOOL 4-3 MAN CITY

90+4: SIDE-NETTING! De Bruyne takes the free-kick…  Aguero meets it at the near post but his header hits the side netting. It was offside anyway!

LIVERPOOL 4-3 MAN CITY

90+3: City have a free-kick out wide with a minute to go. Rash challenge from Milner who goes in the book.

But on comes Klavan for Mane just before it’s taken!!

 LIVERPOOL 4-3 MAN CITY

90+3: Klopp is fuuuming! But he will breathe a sigh of relief when seeing Aguero’s attempt from distance fly over.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 4-3 MAN CITY (Gundogan, 90+1)

And there’s three minutes to go!!

Gundogan takes down a cross with his chest and pokes it past Karius.

Edge of your seat stuff now!

LIVERPOOL 4-2 MAN CITY

90: FOUR minutes added on at Anfield.

LIVERPOOL 4-2 MAN CITY

88: Salah goes off to a standing ovation, with Adam Lallana coming on for the final few minutes. The King, Kenny Dalglish, among those dishing out the applause.

LIVERPOOL 4-2 MAN CITY

85: Liverpool will just look to wind down time when they can here. They earn a free-kick in their own half and unsurprisingly take their time with it.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 4-2 MAN CITY (B.Silva, 84)

Just enough time to make Liverpool fans more than a little nervous…

The ball falls kindly for Silva at the back post and he makes no mistake when stroking it past Karius.

Six minutes plus stoppage time to go.

 LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

81: Tyler points out on commentary that while the current Arsenal crop may not be enjoying this, the Invincibles of 03/04 will be…

LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

79: A reminder for Liverpool that they cannot switch off… De Bruyne whips in a delightful ball but Otamendi cannot get a meaningful touch onto it.

Meanwhile, Can heads off for James Milner.

THREE GOALS

In 10 minutes…

Liverpool at their devastating best.

LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

75: Liverpool continue to press high and it’s Robertson who relentlessly chases Ederson and then Otamendi. Eventually he is deemed to have fouled the City defender.

LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

73: Now it’s Fernandinho who goes in the book for tripping up Mane.

City are shell shocked, and barring a miracle, their unbeaten domestic run is set to grind to an almighty halt. Though of course they will still have a FIFTEEN-POINT lead at the top. That must not be forgotten.

LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

71: And now ironic cheers as Sterling heads off for Bernardo Silva…

 LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY

70: Pep is urging his players to calm down as one of the biggest cheers of the day comes when Sterling goes in the book for a late challenge.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 4-1 MAN CITY (Salah, 68)

Salah gets in on the act!!

Ederson rushes out to clear… but it’s straight to Salah, who from 40 yards out coolly lifts the ball over Ederson and sends the Liverpool fans into delirium.

LIVERPOOL 3-1 MAN CITY

65: Otamendi goes in the book for a challenge on Salah. Worth adding Firmino was booked for his celebration too.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 3-1 MAN CITY (Mane, 61)

What a finish!!!!

Moments after Mane clips the outside of the post, he scores Liverpool’s third, and second in two minutes!

He takes it beautifully too, finding the top corner with his left foot.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 2-1 MAN CITY (Firmino, 59)

Behave! What a finish from Firmino.

He shrugs Stones off the ball before delicately lifting the ball over Ederson.

It bounces off the post and into the net. What a fine, fine goal.

The Brazilian still at Anfield has done the business for Liverpool!

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

58: BLOCKED! Mane works himself a yard of space on the edge of the City area, but Stones throws himself at the strike to take the sting off it, and Ederson collects.

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

56: SAVE! Ederson flaps at a corner but he recovers in time to keep out Salah’s powerful strike.

ANOTHER SAVE! Liverpool keep it alive and Oxlade-Chamberlain cuts back onto his right foot before trying to squeeze one past Ederson, who gets down well to keep it out.

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

51: Brilliant work from Gomez, who ghosts past Walker, but cannot pick out a man in red with the cross.

City then go on the break and win a corner after Aguero’s blocked effort..

OFF THE BAR! Otamendi meets the cross but heads it against the bar from 10 yards out!!

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

49: Funny start to the second half in truth. Little happening in either final third. The onus will be on both sides to change that.

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

47: Solid enough start to the half from City, who have controlled the game since the second-half whistle was blown. Ominous signs? No one goes on the break better than Liverpool…

46 mins

Liverpool 1-1 Man City

Lovely stuff from the Liverpool front three to combine neatly but John Stones gets a shin in the way to deflect the ball clear and Kevin de Bruyne can set the visitors on their way.

Liverpool had eight attempts to City’s four in the first half, both sides had two on target.

KICK-OFF

Liverpool 1-1 Man City

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

And there’s the half-time whistle!

Liverpool failed to push on after Oxlade-Chamberlain’s fine opener, and it was Sane who responded for City when driving a shot past Karius. There are more than just question-marks around the goalkeeper’s attempts to keep that one out, and he will have 15 minutes now to dust himself down and get over it.

Big 45 minutes coming up, and for now, City’s unbeaten domestic record remains in tact. Plenty can change of course…

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

45+2: Firmino’s effort deflects wide and the hosts have a late corner…

Ederson fumbles at it but Sterling clears.

LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY

45: Two minutes added on.

Wijnaldum is reluctant to shoot and he is intercepted at the vital time by Stones.

GOAL! LIVERPOOL 1-1 MAN CITY (Sane, 41)

Look away Liverpool fans, because it’s poor goalkeeping from Karius…

“You cannot let that one go in,” says Neville, as Karius allows Sane’s attempt from a narrow angle to beat him at the near post.

It was terrific work from Sane to get himself into the position, and he will be thankful Karius could not keep out the powerful attempt.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

40: SAVE! His kind of distance, his kind of angle, but Salah’s curled attempt from 20 yards out is too close to Ederson.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

37: OFFSIDE! Superb tackle from Mane allows Liverpool to break, but Salah is just a fraction offside when played through on goal by Wijnaldum.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

34: One shot on target after 34 minutes, but it was a telling one. City need to up the ante.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

32: WIDE! Oxlade-Chamberlain rounds Danilo and sends in a cross which Firmino meets at the near post, but he cannot direct his header on goal.

 LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

31: And Delph does indeed head off, having hurt himself when challenging Oxlade-Chamberlain. Chance for Danilo to shine in his absence.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

30: Delph walking around gingerly and it appears as though his afternoon is over. Danilo is stripped and ready to come on.

27 mins

Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Both sides will struggle to keep this level of intensity up. There’s no rest to be had anywhere,

26 mins

Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Sadio Mane works a neat one-two on the edge of the Manchester City area but Gini Wijnaldum’s reverse pass is no good.

Fabian Delph is down, hurt, off the ball. I didn’t see what happened but he needs treatment. Here it is – Delph slid in and his leg got stuck in the turf, straightening out his knee.

23 mins

Liverpool 1-0 Man City

They share the same dentist, I believe.

City pressing now, Leroy Sane finds a pocket of space on the edge of the box and lashes in a shot, deflected away by Dejan Lovren’s hip.

Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Still a very good game to watch. Manchester City having a strong spell of possession but they haven’t had a shot yet.CLOSE!

Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Raheem Sterling is still being booed by his former fans, but he looks very sharp. He nearly gets in behind Dejan Lovren again but the Croatian makes a good sliding challenge.

Oooh! De Bruyne then flashes a telling ball across goal and the sliding Sergio Aguero is very close to turning it home.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

17: Many sides have scored the opener against City, Carra points out, but none have gone and grabbed the second. It’s on Liverpool now to make that happen…

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

15: The Anfield faithful are roaring their side on, and the team is responding. Mane leads Liverpool on a 3v3, but a lofted ball cannot quite pick out Firmino.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

13: OFFSIDE! City come forward with De Bruyne, but he makes the wrong choice when cutting it across for Sterling, who is flagged for offside. Still, an alarming amount of space for the Belgian when bearing down on the Liverpool area.

LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY

11: Perfect start for Liverpool, and City’s poor form at Anfield has carried into the opening 11 minutes or so here.

 GOAL! LIVERPOOL 1-0 MAN CITY (Oxlade-Chamberlain, 9)

A huge moment for Liverpool, and for Oxlade-Chamberlain!

“It’s a striker’s finish,” says Neville, as the Ox drives forward before unleashing a low effort from 20 yards out into the far corner.

Time to see what City are made of.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN CITY

7: NO PENALTY! Oxlade-Chamberlain loses possession and it sends City on their way. Sterling and De Bruyne link up and it’s the former Liverpool man who goes down in the area under pressure from Lovren.

“Not enough in it for me,” says Neville on the gantry.

 LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN CITY

5: Plenty of jeers for Sterling as he takes his first couple touches of the game. And then there are cheers as Robertson robs Aguero of possession, though City, as ever, press high and earn a throw-in in an advanced position.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN CITY

4: BLOCKED! Mane meets Firmino’s looped ball over the top but his first touch lets him down. Salah then picks up the loose ball but sees his attempt from the edge of the area blocked.

LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN CITY

2: Both teams yet to settle into this one. Losing possession all too easily so far as they both sides just try and compose themselves.

 LIVERPOOL 0-0 MAN CITY

KICK-OFF! The expectation surrounding this fixture reached fever-pitch, and now we are finally under way on the Anfield pitch.

Can Liverpool avenge the 5-0 defeat at the Etihad and end City’s unbeaten Premier League run in the process? Let’s find out, shall we…

Ahead of kick-off, there’s a minute’s applause for Tommy Lawrence, the former Liverpool goalkeeper who sadly passed away this week.

Lawrence featured under Bill Shankly in the 1960s, playing more than 400 times for the Reds.
