• Why social media hoodlums spread malicious lies about telecoms giant

It sounded too horrid to be true but the rumour went viral all the same, that telecoms giant, Globacom, sacked 90 female staff for being married. Even though the rumour was false, bloggers pounced on the gossip; like harbingers of pain and ill will they cast it across the social media not minding the consequences of reporting lies as truth. Investigations revealed that certain bloggers who had an axe to grind with the telecoms giant spread the rumour.

Indeed, too many bloggers are the votaries of cults, which, by definition are dedicated to whitewashing warts and hanging halos. Amid reports last week, that the Globacom laid off 90 of its female staff in Glo Friendship Centres across the country for being married, fresh fact has emerged, to dispel the rumour as a pathetic lie.

Contrary to the gossip that went viral, Globacom simply carried out a routine performance appraisal exercise that affected all staff irrespective of gender or marital status.

But rather than report the news as it is, mischief makers and quacks went to town with the malicious rumour thereby attracting flak to themselves and passing themselves off as social media hoodlums.

Findings within the company revealed that members of staff spanning both gender and marital status were sacked. As you read there are many married women working with Globacom and their jobs had never been more secure, according to sources within the company. For good measure, the company had recently replaced men in sensitive positions with women who were deemed, better qualified to man those posts.

Globacom, a foremost indigenous telecoms giant in Nigeria, takes good care of its staff irrespective of their gender or marital status. For social media hoodlums to project lies to the contrary, skirts moral boundaries, according to industry pundits and social media enthusiasts.
