Media entrepreneur and former presidential aspirant, Chief Dele Momodu, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would support another candidate if he fails to secure the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 general election.
Momodu made this known in an interview with Nigerian Tribune while responding to claims that his political loyalty is tied more to Atiku as an individual than to any political party.
He explained that his political choices are guided by personal conviction and admiration for individuals he believes have the capacity to lead, rather than tribal, regional, or partisan considerations.
He described himself as a detribalised Nigerian with roots in Edo and Osun states, stressing that his experiences and past activism have shaped his belief in national unity and democratic values.
According to him, attempts by politicians to divide Nigerians along ethnic or partisan lines are deliberate strategies to retain power, which he said he does not subscribe to.
On Atiku’s plans for 2027, Momodu said the former vice president would contest the election if he secures the ADC presidential ticket.
However, he added that if Atiku fails to get the party’s ticket, he would align with and support another candidate, describing him as a forthright politician who has previously played key roles in elevating other political figures to the national stage.
He said, “He will run if he gets the ticket of the party. If he doesn’t get the ticket of the party, then he will have to join someone else and support the person. He has always been a very forthright person, and he was the first person to bring Peter Obi on the national platform, but people forget that.”
