BREAKING: Tension As Gunmen Kidnapped 25 In Fresh Attack In Zamfara

January 24, 2026
2 Min Read

Gunmen have reportedly abducted at least 25 persons during an attack on Turmuzawa village, an agrarian community in Bungudu LGA of Zamfara.

According to a report by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the armed men attacked the village on Wednesday night.

Citing residents, Zagazola said the attackers arrived in large numbers at about 11:25 p.m. in the Kotorkoshi district of the village, firing sporadically before moving from house to house and forcing victims into the surrounding bush.

The publication added that the armed men also rustled 14 cows.

“They came suddenly and overwhelmed the village. Many people ran for safety, but others were taken away, and the cattle were driven into the forest,” Makama quoted a resident as saying.

Families of the abducted have reportedly appealed for urgent intervention from security forces to secure the release of their loved ones.

Zagazola reported that troops of the Operation Fansan Yanma of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies have launched coordinated operations in the area to rescue the victims and recover the rustled animals.

Yazid Abubakar, Zamfara police command spokesperson, did not immediately confirm the incident when TheCable contacted him on Saturday.
