A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Fubara Dagogo, has rejected his suspension from the party.
He described the move as unconstitutional and not in line with laid-down rules guiding the APC.
Fubara spoke on Friday amid rising tension within the party in Rivers. He said those behind the action failed to follow due process.
The Rivers APC Chieftain insisted that the party’s constitution must be respected in all disciplinary matters.
“I don’t think they are talking to me; they are not. But whoever they are talking to, I advise those who want to take such action, as someone who has been in the party and a legacy founding member of the APC, to look into the constitution.
“They should also consider the principles guiding the convention so that it does not invalidate whatever exercise they have carried out on that person,” he said.
He maintained that he remains loyal to the APC and President Bola Tinubu. He added that he is actively engaging key blocs within the party to strengthen unity ahead of future activities.
“At the moment, I’m addressing key stakeholders from the CPC, the ACN, and the ANPP—those who made the APC what it is today—and encouraging delegates who attended the national convention to support the party fully. It is our home,” he added.
Fubara’s reaction followed his suspension by the leadership of Ward 4, New Layout in Bonny Local Government Area. The action was taken over alleged anti-party activities.
The suspension was conveyed in a letter dated March 16, 2026. It was signed by the ward chairman, Richard Benstowe, and the secretary, Donald Jumbo.
In a video circulated online, Benstowe read out the notice. He said Fubara’s conduct violated key provisions of the APC Constitution (2022 as amended), specifically Article 21.2 (I), (II), and (VII).
“Following the resolution of members and leaders of Ward 4, New Layout, at an emergency meeting held on March 16, 2026, you are hereby suspended indefinitely from the APC on grounds of breach of the provisions of our party’s constitution and anti-party activities,” the statement read.
The ward leadership accused him of disobeying party directives. It also alleged that he made statements capable of embarrassing the party and its leadership.
They further called on the state secretary of the APC to ratify the decision and take further necessary steps.
Before the suspension, Fubara had approached the Federal High Court in Abuja. He challenged his exclusion from the South-South Zonal Congress held in Asaba, Delta State, on March 25.
He argued that he met all requirements to contest for the position of APC National Vice Chairman (South-South). He said he paid N5.1 million for the nomination form but was still shut out of the process.
Despite the dispute, Fubara said he would not seek an injunction to stop the APC National Convention in Abuja. He stated that he prefers to resolve the matter through internal party mechanisms
