ADC Suspends Two Ex-Governors, Others; Reasons Emerge

April 16, 2026
3 Min Read

A fresh crisis has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Edo State as Nafiu Gombe-led faction announced the suspension of two former governors, two ex-senators and several other members over alleged misconduct.

Naija News reports that the decision was made public on April 15, 2026, following a meeting of the faction’s State Executive Committee.

Those affected include former governors John Odigie Oyegun and Osareimen Osunbor, alongside former senators Yisa Braimah, who represented Edo North, and Ehigie Uzamere from Edo South. Other suspended members are Nosa Ehima, a former chairman of Oredo Local Government, Sylvester Ewanehi, a past commissioner in the state, Tony Alile, the party’s newly elected state chairman, as well as Jafaru Sumaila, Stella Alli, Igieogbe Asemota and Christopher Ojeikere, who serves as the state publicity secretary.

The factional state chairman, Kennedy Odion, explained that the action followed allegations of disobedience to party leadership, involvement in activities that go against party interests, and failure to follow established directives.

He also accused the affected members of creating parallel structures within the party and engaging in actions capable of causing confusion and division.

According to him, the State Executive Committee also found that some of the suspended members were part of groups not recognised by the party’s constitution.

As part of the suspension, all those listed have been barred from attending meetings, taking part in party activities, or making decisions on behalf of the party. They have also been stopped from representing the party in any form and must no longer present themselves as officials or agents of the ADC.

The directive further instructed all party organs and structures across the state to deny the suspended members recognition and access during the period of the suspension. Local government and ward executives were also asked to ensure strict compliance and report any violations.

Odion stated that each of the affected individuals would receive formal communication outlining the allegations against them. They will be invited to appear before the State Disciplinary Committee, where they can defend themselves, present witnesses, and seek representation if needed.

He added that the disciplinary process would follow the party’s constitutional timeline, while those affected still have the right to challenge the decision through an appeal within 14 days. Any appeal, he said, would be reviewed and decided within 21 days by the appropriate party authority.

The faction maintained that the suspension takes immediate effect and remains binding on all party structures in the state.
