Nentawe Yilwatda, the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, has described the former governor of Kano and immediate past predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, as the ruling party’s “co-chairman.”
Nentawe Yilwatda further disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has directed him to collaborate with Ganduje in moving the party forward

The new APC national chairman explained that his administration would heavily rely on Ganduje’s guidance, experience and political networks to strengthen and consolidate the party.
Yilwatda then referred to himself as an APC coordinator and disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has directed that he should collaborate closely with the immediate past national chairman.
The APC national chairman made the comment while speaking at his condolence visit to Ganduje over the death of his mother at his predecessor’s residence in Abuja on Wednesday, August 27.
The APC national chairman’s comment reads in part: “My doors are open, the office is open, the partnership remains open, and the friendship remains open. So never lock your door against me, and I know you will not because we have worked together long before this time.”
This came days after Yilwatda commented on the rumour of the 2023 New Nigeria Peoples Party’s presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso’s defection, adding that the door of the party is open for the Kano-born politician, who gathered millions of votes to come fourth in the 2023 presidential election.
Yilwatda made the comment while speaking on Channels TV shortly after his emergence as the ruling party’s national chairman on Thursday, July 24. During the interview, he was asked about Kwankwaso’s possible interview. He said the doors of the APC are always open.
“Our doors are open. When everybody’s time is due, it will manifest itself, and that is also for everybody who has come back to the APC.”
Kwankwaso and Ganduje have been two political enemies in the politics of Kano. They both worked together as governor and deputy governor in the northwest state until the former handed over power to the latter. There were speculations that Ganduje resigned as the APC’s national chairman because of the planned Kwankwaso’s defection to the party.
