The case concerning the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has recently taken a new direction due to fresh indictments presented by the Nigerian government.
The case has faced significant delays over the past decade, which has hindered the prosecution’s ability to call witnesses and submit evidence until this past Tuesday.

Kanu communicated this sentiment to the President-General of the Igbo Community Association (ICA), Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, during a visit to the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja, where he is currently being held.
In a contrasting view, Prophet Julius Okonkwo, the presiding pastor of Kingdom Seeker, has ominously forecasted that Kanu’s release is unlikely to occur under the current administration, unless a miraculous intervention takes place.
“I don’t see the release of IPOB leader by this government; he will remain there till after 2027 elections. Nothing will happen to him but his release is not foreseen. The Igbos should remain calm and humble towards canvassing for Kanu’s release.”
Revealing further on the possibility of Igbo Presidency, Okonkwo said he’s not seeing Peter Obi and others emerging as Igbo president in Nigeria.
“Not Peter Obi or any person among these politicians in APC and Labour Party can rule this country as Igbo man. But, It will happen very soon, a strong coalition will emerge and only cooperation with Yoruba people will make it happen, northerners won’t handover to Igbo, it will not happen.”
“There are two men likely to lead Igbo presidency, I will not reveal the two men, one of them may become Nigeria’s president in the future, yes, it is possible.”
