Posting on X, Romano revealed that Lookman has decided to join the Spanish side, turning down strong interest from several clubs, including Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe. His decision brings an end to weeks of speculation surrounding his future.
Sky Sport reports that the deal is worth a total of €40 million, made up of a guaranteed €35 million fee plus an additional €5 million in performance-related bonuses.
Romano added that preparations are already in progress for Lookman’s travel to Spain. The Super Eagles star is expected to undergo a medical examination shortly before putting pen to paper on his Atlético Madrid contract in the coming hours.
This season, Lookman featured in 19 matches for Atalanta, contributing three goals and two assists across all competitions, performances that helped attract significant attention from Europe’s top clubs.
