Former Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi (MON) has escaped what could have been a fatal road accident in Lagos.
The former Nigeria international disclosed the incident on Sunday via his Instagram page, where he posted a video revealing extensive damage to the front section of his SUV.
Onazi explained that the crash was caused by another vehicle allegedly occupied by two intoxicated persons.
Expressing concern over the incident, the ex-Lazio and Trabzonspor player urged authorities to take decisive action against drunk driving in Lagos, describing it as an escalating danger on the roads.
“The government needs to urgently address the issue of drunk driving in Lagos. I almost lost my life last night because of two drunk guys in a car,” Onazi wrote.
The accident occurred just days after the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner marked his birthday, which was celebrated with goodwill messages and public tributes from prominent Nigerian football figures, including former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama and ex-Premier League forward Peter Odemwingie.
Onazi’s experience has added to growing concerns about road safety in Lagos, where reckless and alcohol-impaired driving remain major threats to motorists and pedestrians.
