Bayo Onanuga, the special adviser to the president on information and strategy, announced the development in a statement on Saturday, February 28, adding that Audi will resume office with a new mandate on Monday, March 2.
On Friday, February 27, Audi bowed out of service after reaching the mandatory retirement age and the completion of his tenure. Recall that the NSCDC boss resumed office on March 1, 2021, after he was appointed by the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The NSCDC boss celebrated his last day in office on the commemoration of the 2026 World Civil Defence Day on Friday, February 27, at the headquarters of the corps in Abuja.
The Nasarawa-born Audi was born on September 30, 1967. He holds a PhD in Public Communication from Nasarawa State University, Keffi. He holds Masters in Public Business Administration from the University of Calabar, and he is a member of the National Institute (mni).
However, the reappointment of Audi has started generating criticism from Nigerians. Below are some of their reactions:
Amb. Stephen O. Enike-Matthew condemned the reappointment: “Then depriving those who are due and qualified to assume such responsibility, just like the Police. If the man has outlived in service years and attained the mandatory service retirement age, let him go and rest, so others will grow and attain the ranks due them professionally.”
Temitope Samuel Omojolaibi congratulated Audi: “Congratulations to Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi on his reappointment as Commandant-General of NSCDC. His experience and dedication position him well to strengthen the Corps and support Nigeria’s security efforts as the police focus on bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists.”
Fabulous condemned the reappointment of the NSCDC boss: “This is such a shame. Now that he has extended his tenure, what about those behind him who are supposed to have been elevated to his position? What kind of wickedness is this?”
Ayodele Chuks decried the development: “How will the young ones grow when the old refuse to leave office? President Tinubu, please offload these old timers, give opportunity to hard-working officers to fill such positions.”
Jay Ibiam “Ah, none of his Lagos old boys is in NSCDC, so no point changing anything. Just let anybody there remain.”
