Several Facebook posts claim that Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti, has predicted that Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), will defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Amid questions over whether Obi can go all the way and win Nigeria’s election in 2027 Legit checked a well-circulated claim related to the presidential hopeful.


Part of the post, dated Monday, June 30, 2025, juotes Fayose as saying:
“The Peter Obilk know- along with his supporters – will unseat Tinubu in 2027.”
Fake quotes attributed to Fayose
On Tuesday, July 1, Fayose took to his verified X formerly known as Twitter) account to debunk the claim.
The 64-year-old Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member published a screenshot of the claim and labelled it “fake news”.

In late July, Fayose confidently predicted that President Tinubu will wvin the 2027 election.

In July, some Nigerian politicians, drawn from various political parties in the country, recently formed the National Opposition Coalition Group to unseat President Tinubu in the 2027 election.
The group adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for the 2027 general elections.
Obi and Atiku are among those leading the coalition group.”
Apart from the two men, other promoters of the coalition include former Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, Rotimi Ameachi of Rivers state, Gabriel Suswam of Benue, and Sule Lamido of Jigawa state.
A former Senate President, David Mark, and an ex-governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola, were appointed as the ADC interim national chairman and secretary, respectively.
