The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf , has announced significant changes to the cultural celebrations of this Eid.
This action follows intelligence reports received by the government from the State Security Committee, indicating that some miscreants were planning to cause unrest during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations .
The statement was made by Kano governor’s aide , Ibrahim Adam, on his Facebook page , which he said came from the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Comrd. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
The government stressed that while it is committed to preserving and promoting Kano’s culture, it said its primary responsibility is to protect the lives and property of the people.
The commissioner’s statement said: “The Kano State Government wishes to inform the public that it has received credible intelligence reports from the state security council, which have identified some corrupt individuals planning to incite riots and disrupt law and order during the upcoming Sallah celebrations.”
“The government emphasizes that it will not shirk its major responsibility of ensuring peace, law and order, and protecting the lives and property of the people of the state.”
After consultation with the Kano Emirate and other stakeholders, the commissioner said the state government has approved the following Sallah celebrations:
1. Eid Al-Fitr: His Highness the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, will lead the procession from the Eid prayer ground at Kofar Mata through designated routes to Gidan Shettima, where it will conclude at Kofar Fatalwa of the Emir of Kano’s palace.
2. Nasarawa River: This ride will be held in a different style, but it will not be done on horseback.
3. When to go: The government has suspended this ride for now, stating that it will continue during the next Sallah holidays, God willing.
4. Climbing the Fanisau and Climbing the Dorayi: These two flights have also been suspended for now to ensure public safety and security.
The government has issued directives to all security agencies to intensify monitoring and ensure strict compliance with these laws, Daily Trust reports .
Likewise, officers were ordered to take all legal measures to prevent any attempt to cause unrest before, during, and after the celebrations.
Finally, the government called on all residents of the state to remain calm, be law-abiding, and cooperate with security forces.
She also warned people to avoid spreading false and unverified news, wishing the entire Muslim community good health and happiness on the occasion of this great festival of the small Sallah.
