Amid the controversies that followed the street renaming in some parts of Lagos, the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state has become the second to rename six streets within its territory. The move was part of its wider street naming and revalidation exercise.
This came amid the controversies of the renaming of streets in the Bariga local council area of the state, particularly the renaming of Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop

Femi Falana, a human rights activist, has joined several other Nigerians to criticise the renaming of the bus stop.
Recently, the renaming of streets sparked controversies, particularly about the changing of the well-known Charly Boy Bus Stop to Olamide Baddo Bus Stop in the Oworonshoki area of the Bariga Local Council Development Area of Lagos.
Tribune reported that many Nigerians have spoken out against the renaming of the bus stop, including prominent figures like the Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), who claimed it was “unconstitutional”.
On Friday, August 1, the Eti-Osa Council, in a public notice signed by its council manager, Oluwakemi Oshun, announced the renaming of the streets, adding that it takes effect immediately.
The council then call on business owners, residents and the general public to update their records and ensure they reflect the changes.
According to the council, the renaming of the streets was to ensure the reflection of the historical and cultural identity of the affected areas. It added that it would improve navigation and data management.
The Eti-Osa local government explained that the exercise was carried out with necessary consideration for community relevance and the needs for urban planning.
