Bala Mohammed has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting he remains a loyal member of the party.
Speculation had emerged that the governor was considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with some reports claiming the defection could happen within the week.
Speaking briefly to journalists after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House on Wednesday, Mohammed declined to grant a full interview but said he would address the issue later.
“Pressmen, no interview for now. I will speak with Channels at 7 pm,” he said, before adding, “I have not moved; they said that I have defected.”
The governor also described himself as an “international figure in politics,” noting that he would provide further clarification on the matter later in the day.
Addressing the newly appointed permanent secretaries, Mohammed urged them to uphold integrity and avoid corruption, stressing that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of bringing the government into disrepute.
He also called for discipline and professionalism, warning against insubordination and partisan involvement while in office.
The governor further encouraged them to mentor younger civil servants, noting that ongoing reforms depend on building a new generation grounded in ethics and competence.
Mohammed reassured retirees of his administration’s commitment to clearing outstanding gratuities estimated at about N20 billion, revealing that payment of 13-year arrears began in January 2026.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Musa Umar.
