Political commentator Japheth Omojuwa has declared that former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidentialcandidate, Peter Obi, will never become the President of Nigeria.

According to Omojuwa, Obi’s ambition is unrealistic because his movement is built more on social media enthusiasm than strong political structures across Nigeria.
“Peter Obi is popular, no doubt, but elections are not won on Twitter or Instagram. They are won in the villages, the wards, the polling units — places where he has no strong structure,” Omojuwa said.
He argued that Nigeria’s political terrain requires alliances with established power blocs, which Obi has struggled to secure.
“Obi’s biggest support came from young people who wanted change, but that energy did not translate into the kind of nationwide machinery needed to win. He performed well in urban areas but was nowhere in many rural states,” he added.
Omojuwa said that while Obi’s integrity appeals to many, Nigerian politics demands more than popularity.
“It’s not enough to be loved online. Who are your foot soldiers in the North, the South-West, the rural North-Central? Politics here is about structures, negotiations, and alliances. Obi has not built that bridge,” he said.
Peter Obi has not responded directly, but a Labour Party spokesperson described Omojuwa’s comments as an attempt to discourage Nigerians who believe Obi represents hope for a new Nigeria.
