Former Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has expressed his enthusiasm for joining a new political party, signaling a shift from his previous association with Governor Ademola Adeleke and the established political platforms in the state.
The Omoluabi Progressives is a political organisation he founded following his tenure as governor.
While addressing the gathering, Aregbesola who expressed optimism about the group’s prospects in the coming election stated that, “By this time next year, we will all be close to Abere (Osun Governor’s Office). May God make it so.” …CONTINUE READING
“So, people are having untrue impression that we will align with anyone (in the governorship poll). We are not going to align with anyone. We are going to pursue our political interests separately.
“No alliance with anyone or group. By the grace of God, this group will win. We will contest and we will win,” he declared.
The move signals Aregbesola’s official break from both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun, led by Governor Adeleke, and the All Progressives Congress (APC), with which he had been aligned for over a decade.
The former Minister of Interior had previously fallen out with his successor, Gboyega Oyetola, and later with his former political mentor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The internal crisis within the Osun APC was widely seen as a major factor in the party’s defeat in the 2022 gubernatorial election.
Political analysts believe Aregbesola’s latest move is aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2026 governorship election, potentially forming a coalition that could disrupt the existing political order in the state.
As developments unfold, attention is now shifting to the potential unveiling of the new party and the figures expected to align with Aregbesola in what may be a game-changing political realignment in Osun and beyond.
Self deciet.
Aregbesola political career has been seriously stained.
He should retrace his steps before it is too late.
He should continue to build and distroy, all i know is that his selfish motive will not take him far.
