Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has published what he claims is email evidence proving his involvement in the nomination of Peter Obi as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in the 2019 presidential election.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday, Omokri shared a screenshot of an email reportedly sent to him by Peter Obi on October 8, 2018, just four days before Obi was officially announced as Atiku’s vice-presidential candidate.

Four days after this email was sent, Peter Obi was announced as Waziri Atiku Abubakar’s running mate,” Omokri stated.
The former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan said he was compelled to make the email public to counter accusations from members of the Obidient Movement, who had labeled him a liar regarding his claim of facilitating Obi’s emergence as VP candidate.
“My ONLY motive in publishing this evidence is to establish that I did not lie. I would not have considered publishing this email if a Peter Obi surrogate had not called me a liar on a popular podcast,” he explained.
Omokri further challenged Peter Obi to deny the authenticity of the email and warned that he had more evidence to release if needed.
“If this email is fake or AI-generated, then I challenge Mr. Obi to deny it, and I will publish even more damning evidence, although it is not my desire to do so,” he warned.
As of now, Peter Obi has not publicly responded to the claim.
The revelation has sparked debate across social media, with some Nigerians questioning the timing and intent behind the disclosure. In contrast, others see it as a rare glimpse into the backdoor politics surrounding high-level electoral decisions.
