Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju has dropped claims that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is positioning himself to take over as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory after 2027.
He alleged that the move is part of wider political calculations ahead of the next general elections.
Adeyanju made the remarks in a video posted online. He spoke strongly about the state of the opposition, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to him, the party is no longer functioning as a united political force. He claimed that several of its members are quietly aligning with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 race.
In his words, “PDP is a distraction; what is dead may never die again. I don’t want to bother myself about PDP now because everybody there is working for Tinubu.
“They are just looking for who will have the most bargaining chip. Seyi Makinde wants to replace Wike and maybe he will become the next FCT minister in 2027. So he is more or less how we will make Tinubu come back in 2027, I will not join them in their caricature; I don’t have their time.”
The comments have added to ongoing conversations around internal divisions within the PDP. The party has, in recent times, faced open disagreements among key figures, including Makinde and the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. Their relationship has been marked by political differences, especially since the last general election.
Wike, who previously served as governor of Rivers State, has often been accused by some party loyalists of working against PDP interests. These claims have surfaced repeatedly, though he has continued to deny any wrongdoing or disloyalty to the party.
Adeyanju’s latest remarks point to growing speculation about political realignments ahead of 2027. Analysts believe that alliances, negotiations, and strategic positioning may intensify as the election draws closer.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Makinde, Wike, or the PDP leadership regarding the allegations.
