A family source confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nassarawa Eggon, revealing that the lawmaker passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in an Indian hospital.
Describing the late senator’s passing as a major loss, the source said Akwashiki’s leadership and commitment to the development of his senatorial district had left an indelible mark.
“Since in the history of Nasarawa North, Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator Nasarawa North ever produced due to his purposeful leadership.
“His projects are in every nook and cranny of the constituency as he was the only Senator that re-contested and won for a second term in the zone,” the source stated.
Before his election into the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki served as Majority Leader and later Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.
He was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nassarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State. His death has sent shockwaves through the political landscape of the state.
He was elected to the Senate in Nigeria’s 2019 general elections. Akwashiki was re-elected during the 2023 general election.
