The ICT facility, established under the Renewed Hope Initiative, was named in honor of Chief Mrs. Onikepo Akande, a distinguished businesswoman and former Minister of Industry.

At the event, a mild drama occurred when the Ooni of Ife walked into the venue and started greeting dignitaries who all stood up to shake his hand.

However, when he got to where the Alaafin of Oyo was seated, the Oyo monarch stretched his hand to shake the Ooni without getting up from his seat.
