Speaking to his supporters in Kano on Wednesday, Bakwana said they have been sidelined and betrayed by APC leaders
“After years of loyalty and sacrifice, we have nothing to show for it. We have decided to join the NNPP because Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is a strong leader who knows politics well and, more importantly, never betrays his people.”
Bakwana, who once served as Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Ganduje during his tenure as governor of Kano State, was considered one of Ganduje’s key political strategists in the Northwest.
His defection is seen as a major blow to the APC’s grassroots mobilization efforts in Kano, a state that remains a critical battleground ahead of the 2027 elections.
His move also highlights growing internal divisions within the APC, especially in Kano, where tensions between factions loyal to Ganduje and those aligned with the current state leadership have intensified in recent months.
