What is in a name that most divorced rich and successful ladies would still cling to their ex-husband’s name? Lagos Socialite, Uju Murphy falls in the category of women who hang on to their husband’s name long after they have called it quit with them.

The reason for Uju’s retention of Murphy has been found to be more political than preserving the name for familial reason. Uju is playing ‘big’ in the political field, where she is registered as Obianuju Murphy-Uzohe, as she is the Vice Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a party which parades Mani Ahmad as its presidential candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.

Some are of the opinion that in a society where unmarried women are scorned and are not respected; as such as she would not want to drop her husband’s name so as not to be portrayed as being matrimonially irresponsible.

Uju fell out with her estranged husband, Murphy Uzohue few years back as a result of irreconcilable differences. Accusations and counter-accusations of infidelity precipitated the eventual break-up of the union which produced three grown children.
