Amid the debate about Tinubu’s re-election, Dare Glintstone Akinniyi, spokesperson for the New Democratic Frontiers (NDF), has explained why FCT minister Nyesom Wike cannot lead Nigeria
Reacting to former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal’s trending interview, Akinniyi warned that Nigeria cannot be left in the hands of temperamental individuals
Akinniyi, in an interview with Legit, stated that at that critical juncture in the nation’s polity, a leader like Wike, who had limited regard for Nigeria’s interests, was not fit to rule the nation
Akinniyi emphasised that Wike does not genuinely prioritise Nigeria’s interests, which disqualifies him from effective leadership.
Legit.ng reported that Wike’s billboards were spotted in various parts of Abuja.
Reports disclosed that some politicians and local contractors seeking favour from Wike erected the billboards to showcase the minister’s projects in the nation’s capital.
While Wike is yet to comment on the development, reports disclosed that the billboards compete for attention with those of President Tinubu, who is seeking a second term in 2027.
However, in a trending interview, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, former Sokoto state governor and current lawmaker, declared that he would rather support former vice president Atiku Abubakar than FCT minister Wike to become the country’s leader.
In an interview with Legit.ng on Sunday, September 7, Akinniyi backed Tambuwal’s stance and asserted that to be a president in a complex country like Nigeria, certain inherent qualities are essential but many potential leaders lacked them.
Buttressing his point, the analyst emphasised the need for experience in managing a diverse society and cautioned against placing the fate of the nation in the hands of “temperamental individuals.”
Akinniyi opined: “Generally, for anyone to be president of a country like Nigeria, you need to possess some unwritten traits or characters that we can’t presently see in some of those trying to lead the country. The competency needed to take on the challenges facing us a nation-state can’t be left in the hands of temperamental individuals.
“You need to have experience of running a multi-ethnic society while on many fronts negotiating with different people and backgrounds.
“For Aminu Tambuwal to say Wike isn’t qualified to be our president, it’s out of a personal and more deep relationship with him. Mind you, they were close associates for long and they remain friends. He said: “When it comes to leadership of this country and leadership of the people, tomorrow, not even today, I would rather support Atiku than Nyesom Wike. It is collaboration. It is not something difficult.”
“Clearly, at this volatile point of our nationhood, someone like Wike can’t lead Nigeria. He is someone with little national interest at heart.”
