2O27 Election: Atiku Speaks On Defecting To NDC

May 4, 2026
2 Min Read

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed reports about plans to defect to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), after the former presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Naija News reports that Atiku, in a statement through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, on Monday, described reports of his imminent defection to the NDC as fake news.

In the statement titled “This is FAKE NEWS”, Shaibu denied claims that Atiku has held secret talks on defection with ADC officials.

He further stated that Atiku remains committed to the ADC and its mission of rescuing Nigeria, and there will be no distraction to it.

The statement read, “This is FAKE NEWS. No defection. No secret talks. No shadowy meetings. No political theatrics. Just another clumsy, recycled falsehood manufactured to distract Nigerians from the grinding realities of hardship, insecurity, and a floundering economy. But Nigerians are wiser now. You cannot bury the truth beneath a mountain of propaganda.

“@atiku remains fully committed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its mission to rescue Nigeria from the grip of this failing administration. There will be no detours, no distractions, and no retreat only a resolute march toward rebuilding a nation that works for all.”
