Onyekachi Okafor, one of the strong supporters and advocates of the president of the immediate past administration, late Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly passed away.
This was disclosed in a statement by the immediate past governor of Kaduna state, Nasir El-Rufai, which was shared on his social media page on Tuesday, December 30.
El-Rufai described 2025 as a “dreadful year that witnessed the death of many prominent and patriotic Nigerians,” and went on to describe her as “the most active and patriotic young member” of a WhatsApp group, in which he was a member.

The group, according to the former governor, is called “Nigeria First WhatsApp Discussion Group”. He prayed for her soul and sent his condolences to her family as well as other members of the group.
His statement reads in part: “Miss Okafor was a patriotic Nigerian, a thoughtful contributor, and a passionate advocate for national renewal and collective progress. Her active and courageous participation within the Nigeria First community reflected her sincere commitment to our country’s future.
“Her death is a painful and heartbreaking loss not only to her family and loved ones, but also to all of us in the Nigeria First: Rescue Naija 2027 movement who valued her intellect, humility, and sense of purpose.”

Some Nigerians have taken to the comment section of the former governor’s post and mourned the deceased. Below are some of their comments: Simple Life Note mourned the deceased:
“The loss of Miss Onyekachi Okafor is deeply saddening. Her passion, courage, and commitment to a better Nigeria were evident in every contribution she made. May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her family and community find comfort and strength in the legacy of her dedication.”
Ituma Sunny accused the former governor of politicising her death: “You must politicise her death, Nasir? You politicise the death of a young woman, young enough to be your daughter? Is this how low you have gone in your desperation for political relevance? Bury your head in shame. Tufiakwa!”
Charisma requested to join the WhatsApp group: “How can I join the WhatsApp group in order to contribute my own quota of Nigeria first?”
Activemmy prayed for her: “May her soul rest in peace. How do I join the WhatsApp group?”
