Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, the daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially informed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of her intention to run for the governorship of Ogun State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This announcement occurred during a private meeting at the President’s residence in Lagos, where she shared her vision for the state’s future.

During their discussion, Senator Obasanjo detailed her governance priorities, including development initiatives and public service plans should she be elected.
The conversation also highlighted her longstanding relationship with President Tinubu, characterized by years of political engagement and mutual respect, which she believes has shaped her leadership approach.
Obasanjo remarked, “On Monday in Lagos, I had the privilege of meeting His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and our conversation was insightful and forward-looking, focusing on leadership, governance and the ongoing development of our nation and Ogun State.”
During the meeting, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the APC and pledged to mobilise support for President Tinubu ahead of the next general election.
Observers view the meeting as part of broader political consultations and alignments in preparation for future electoral contests in both Ogun State and at the national level.
