President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking the screening and confirmation of Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a minister of the Federal Republic.
Naija News reports that the request was read on the floor of the Senate by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who subsequently referred it to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action.
Akpabio directed the committee to report back as soon as practicable.
The nomination comes days after Tinubu relieved Wale Edun of his duties as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, alongside Ahmed Dangiwa.
In a separate correspondence, the President also sought Senate approval for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions, which is expected to report back within one week.
Additionally, Tinubu requested confirmation for the reappointment of Benedict Umeno as a member of the Code of Conduct Bureau, representing the South-East.
The request was referred to the Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption, also with a one-week deadline to submit its report.
