The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Naija News reports that he made the announcement on Saturday at the Bauchi Government House during a gathering that followed a closed-door meeting with political stakeholders in the state. The event was attended by the National Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, Yusuf Dantalle, who was present when the governor declared his move.

Before leaving the PDP, Bala Mohammed served as the chairman of the party’s Governors’ Forum, a position that placed him at the centre of discussions among PDP governors across the country.

His defection also included supporters loyal to the Tanimu Turaki-led group within the PDP structure in Bauchi State.

The meeting that preceded the announcement was said to have involved key political figures, although details of what was discussed were not made public.

In other news, Bala Mohammed has declared that he would not contest the presidency, noting that the PDP had zoned the position to the South.

He said he would instead run for the Bauchi South senatorial seat.

“I am not contesting for the presidency. At the party level, we agreed to zone it to the South out of fairness.

“However, based on calls from my people, I will contest the Bauchi South senatorial seat to continue representing them and support our candidates,” he said.
