Desperate Nollywood actresses and their quests for endorsement deals

November 23, 2015

Desperados know a hundred ways to get it down, even if the seemingly obvious route is a no-go area. They will break the rules and norms to achieve their aims. Call them iconoclast, call them rebel, but one thing you can never call them is failures because hardly ever fail in the pursuit of their goal.
It has been revealed that most Nollywood actresses who have bagged one or two endorsement deals with corporate organizations in Nigeria were able to do so through a barter arrangement, whereby  something is given in exchange  for something else.
These days, artistes and artists alike rely heavily on endorsements from big companies, mostly telecom companies, to enhance their social status, and the female folks in the industry seem to have an edge over their male counterparts  folks. Hence, the quest for endorsements have seen many of the ladies in the industry turning themselves into harlots in the offices of these companies.
This fact was further buttressed by the veteran actress, Binta Ayo Mogaji, who expressed disappointment over the fact that some of her colleagues are left out of  endorsement deals because they cannot perform the desperado stunts.
When asked about the deal, she saidshe was not exactly bothered. She urged journalists to help her ask the corporateorganizations what disqualifies them (those who don’t get the deals) from such life-changing opportunities. She said maybe older actresses don’t work hard enough, or maybe they cannot sleep around like the younger actresses do, or maybe they cannot quite do what the younger ones are doing, or those organizations cannot get what they’re getting from the younger ones from them.
She further disclosed that: “It’s quite shocking that some people still think you’ve not done enough and that it’s only the new faces that can sell products and services; all well and good, if anybody needs my service, they will call me when the time comes.”

Ayo Mogaji went further to clear the air on her relationship with another veteran actor, Jibola Dabo. She disclosed that both were never married, that he is only her child’s father.
Mogaji said: “Jibola was only my boyfriend, though we had a baby together before I got married. We never got married to each other. I’m married to a British Psychotherapist named Dr. Victor Ayodele Oduleye.”

Jibola Dabo, last year, disclosed that he separated from Ayo because they both have some things they do not like about each other and they both decided to let go.
He said: “Her smoking and drinking habits were enough reason to halt the union since marriage is about living together. I never told her to stop drinking. I said stop getting drunk.  There is a big difference. I buy beer at home and drink but I don’t get drunk.”
