There is always a thin line between friendship and enmity. We have seen best of friends who, at the spark of a minor disagreement, became worst of enemies. Such issue always borders on differences of personal interest. The entertainment industry is one industry that has many of these thin lines.
Musical bands have split because of this diverse in interest; artistes have fired their managers because of diverse interest and cronies and allies have turned against one another for same reasons. The latest entertainers who have crossed the thin line from friendship to enmity are Don Jazzy and Olamide. The latter has never concealed his admiration of the former, but as we speak, the social media is awash with vulgar and vehement tweets from the two bosses against each other.
The Headies Award Nigeria is one of the prestigious musical awards that recognize Nigerian artistes that are doing well in the industry. Its aim is to reward excellence in the Nigerian music industry. Though it has maintained its stance as the most recognized award platform in the country since its maiden edition some years ago, it has however caused feud between Nigerian musical arts who they try to recognise.
The 2014 Headies event experienced its downside as different artistes felt cheated at the event after the award they thought should have being theirs was given to other artistes. The 2015 Headies however is not making an exception as it has started war between the two kings in the Nigerian musical Industry, Olamide, badoo of the YBNL dynasty and Don Jazzy of the Mavin record dynasty.
The duo happen to be one of Nigeria’s’ best artistes but the war over an award has belittled their standards in the hearts of their fans especially in Nigeria. The two have made social media as their battle ground as they throw retributions against one each, especially on Twitter and Instagram
Reason for the war
Both labels had their star talents: Lil Kesh (YBNL), Korede Bello and Reekado Banks (both of Mavin Records) nominated in one of the major awards of the night – the Next Rated Act award.
This award was won by Mavin Records artist Reekado Banks who acknowledged that Lil Kesh could have won while he was on stage receiving his award.
The shade unfolded when YBNL singer Adekunle Gold and his record label mates went on stage to receive his award for Best Alternative Song. After Gold gave his thanks, Olamide took the microphone and said:
“Adekunle Gold let’s be honest, this award belongs to Lil Kesh, because Lil Kesh is our Next Rated artist”, he said.
“Every single was a hit back to back, from ‘Lyrically’ to ‘Shoki’ to ‘Efejoku’”. After which the rapper cursed before dropping the microphone and walking off stage.
When Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy was giving his speech after he received a Special Recognition Award, he said he had told Korede Bello and Reekado Banks who he referred to as his “children” not to look at the list of nominees when it came out and promised he would buy them cars.
He then fired back at Olamide saying: “Olamide, if you want the car, come and collect it”.
After which he and the Mavin entourage left the event.
Olamide then went to Twitter and posted: “Don Jazzy is human … Not God I only aired my opinion.. Don’t mention my name … Biko .”.
After his tweet, different punch lines were thrown in as the trend continues on twitter
