Oil tycoon dabbles in media enterprise as his football club wobble to maladministration
Why ex-Super Eagles star, Daniel Amokachi, quit as head coach of Ubah’s team two months after his appointment

There is a limit to deeds of greatness, beyond which lies barrenness and hot air. Everything is quite difficult enough for the ham-fisted, and what is simple actually becomes difficult and unwieldy in the hands of the inept. This ugly truth aptly connotes the tenor of speculations and fears about controversial oil tycoon and boss of Capital Oil, Ifeanyi Ubah’s capacity to manage a media firm successfully. In the wake of his recent foray into the world of journalism and publishing, pundits speculate over Ubah’s capability to run his newspaper, Authority, ethically and with remarkable success.

Following his involvement in an ugly fuel subsidy scam during the regime of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ubah had attracted flak to himself and incited virulent criticisms about his personal ethics and business culture. It would be recalled that Ubah’s ability and maturity at managing his football club, FC Ifeanyi Ubah, was questioned recently in sports and general public circuits due to his alleged intolerance and overbearing attitude. It is worthy of note that former Super Eagles assistant coach, Daniel Amokachi, resigned as coach of FC Ifeanyi Ubah barely three months after he assumed duty as the club’s coach. Although he refused to reveal his exact reason for quitting, The Capital findings revealed that it may be linked with what happened after the team were beaten 1-0 by Sharks FC in Port Harcourt recently. Miffed by his team’s loss, Ubah who allegedly has little tolerance for defeat, ordered his team to embark on a night journey, an order which the coaches and players rejected. Consequently, Amokachi was asked to stay away from the club over alleged insubordination. Ubah’s foray into journalism and newspaper publishing has since excited speculations about his maturity at managing a capital-guzzling and resource-tasking enterprise as a newspaper.

It is a general assumption in media circuits that Ubah’s Authority newspaper was created to fight the controversial oil tycoon’s many battles and launch a propaganda war in his name and that of his closest associates and benefactors. Perhaps Ubah will prove his critics wrong and actually manage his newspaper with admirable professionalism, tolerance and maturity.
