There was chaos at the national secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as a car burst into flames in front of the party’s main entrance.
The car, painted in red and bearing registration number TSE – 423 – AA from Benue State, was en route from the Barcelona Hotels on Blantyre street in the Wuse 2 area of Abuja when it suddenly caught fire.
The incident unfolded during a solidarity rally staged by some members of the APC from the North Central region in support of the party’s national chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, whom they insisted should not be removed before the end of his tenure.
Witnesses at the secretariat, near the entrance gate, began shouting ‘fire, fire’, prompting a frantic rush for safety.
It took the swift action of some drivers and security personnel at the APC secretariat to extinguish the flames.
Following the extinguishing of the fire, the red car was pushed away from the entrance gate and parked around the Stallion Court, also on Blantyre street.
Another eyewitness, identified only as Abdullahi, remarked, “The driver acted swiftly; otherwise, it could have been a black Wednesday.”
