The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has suspended Ifeanyi Ubah and queried Senator Buruji Kashamu for alleged anti-party activities.

While Kashamu, who represents Ogun East in the Senate, was queried for his activities in the South-West zone of the party, Ubah was questioned for allegedly disparaging national officers of the party and those that conducted the Anambra State governorship primary.

While Kashamu has replied to the query and denied issues raised in it; Ubah has, according to the party, ignored the party’s query.

Spokesperson for the party, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday.

He said the matter had been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee headed by Chief Tom Ikimi, which was expected to brief the party in two weeks.

Adeyeye said, “This week, we had some disciplinary issues regarding the Anambra governorship primaries, in which one of the aspirants had launched a major attack against the leadership of the party in the media.

“I’m talking of Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah, who not being satisfied with the decision of the Governorship Appeal Panel, decided to launch a vitriolic attack on the leadership of the party and those involved in the conduct of the primary.

“The NCC took a decision to issue him a query, asking him to retract the statement and to offer apology to those who have been disparaged by his remarks in the press.”

He added, “He chose not to answer the query. Of course, the query was issued under the relevant sections of the constitution of the PDP.

“But he decided not to answer the query; consequent upon which the NCC today (Thursday) decided to suspend him for a period of one month and to refer the matter to the National Disciplinary Committee for further necessary action.”

On Kashamu, Adeyeye said he replied the query issued to him.

“He (Kashamu) too was issued a query by the NCC some weeks ago. In his own case, he replied the query and denied some of the allegations made against him and basically said that he was not responsible for some of those things he was accused of, consequent upon which the National Caretaker Committee also took a decision to refer his case to the National Disciplinary Committee for further necessary action.”

The lawmaker, in his response to the query dismissed the allegation that he instigated the police against some PDP members in Ogun State, stating, “I wish to unequivocally assert that I never reported any of these people to the police nor do I have course to instigate the police against them.”

He said his response to the query was out of deference to constituted authority.

He said, “Let me quickly add that the issuance of the query is contemptuous of the order of the court made on the 5th of September, 2017 by the Federal High Court, Abuja in Suit No.FHC/ABJ/CS/732/2017 wherein the court ordered that, ‘all parties are hereby ordered to desist from taking any further step or steps that may affect the Res in this matter as previously made by Hon. Justice N. Dimgba on 10/8/2017’

“I am extremely shocked by the content of your letter to the effect that I instigated the police to arrest and prefer criminal charges against certain party members whose names were mentioned in your letter.

“This is more so because the issues raised in the letter practically have no direct bearing to me except to the extent that I am the leader and highest PDP political office holder in Ogun State.”

While denying receipt of any query, Ubah urged the party leadership to show evidence to the contrary.

He said, “Let them show proof of the query they said they had given me. At least, someone would have received it. Ask them to show you who received the query.

“Let them query me; I’m also ready to ask them some questions. I have the right to be aggrieved. But I’m ready to fight my own cause.

“Let them bring the query. Let them sack me. I’m ready for them. I’m even ready to sack them.”
