The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a consequential adjustment to the campaign timeline for the upcoming Osun State Governorship Election.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, the Commission confirmed that the deadline for all political campaigns in the state is now set for midnight on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
This administrative update follows the earlier rescheduling of the election date from August 8 to August 15, 2026.
The adjustment is in strict compliance with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that all public campaigning must conclude 24 hours prior to the commencement of polls.
The statement, signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, noted that the initial shift in the governorship election date was part of the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election cycle, published in February 2026.
According to the official INEC notice, the Commission emphasized the importance of procedural discipline among the various political actors.
The statement noted: “The Commission urges all political parties, candidates, and stakeholders to strictly adhere to the revised timeline.” It further reiterated the electoral umpire’s institutional commitment “to the conduct of free, fair, credible and inclusive elections.”
