The leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a new turn on Wednesday as Nafiu Bala officially took office as the party’s National Chairman.
In a press conference upon his resumption, Bala declared himself the legitimate National Chairman of the ADC. He clarified that according to the electoral act and the ADC’s constitution, he is the rightful successor following Ralph Nwosu’s resignation from the role of National Chairman.
Nwosu stepped down after the opposition coalition adopted the ADC a few months ago. Following his resignation, David Mark was appointed as the Interim National Chairman of the party.

However, Bala, who previously served as the Deputy National Chairman, accused coalition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, of attempting to seize control of the ADC.
Bala stated, “As the national leadership of our party, we are not aware of any change in leadership. Our former National Chairman voluntarily resigned his position.
“Our party’s constitution is very clear regarding the transfer of power and the procedure to follow when the National Chairman resigns.
“According to our party’s rules and the electoral act, the Deputy National Chairman is entitled to assume leadership of the party.
“I now assume the role of the authentic National Chairman of our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
